You Know What I Mean

You are now reading the blog of an official ride operator (unofficial carni) of Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America. I start training on Saturday morning. Early. This will be interesting. It's paid though.

I need to read more. Suggest books for me. Do it. Please?

I'm generally frustrated with things. It'll pass.

I suggest the sonnet cycle by Sir Philip Sidney titled "Astrophil and Stella" (Starlover [Greek] and Star [Latin]). 108 sonnets and 11 songs. Also, Steve Martin is a great playwright. WASP is a short one by him.

Return the favor? I need some new words in my life.

One of my good friends is really into The World According to Garp. idk, thought I'd mention it.

I'm reading Barthelme and the rest of the Vonnegut books we didn't get to and Dreams From My Father by Barack.

Otherwise if you want some light reading, The Book Thief by Mark Zusak is my favorite book. It's technically a young adult book but it doesn't read like one, and technically historical fiction but also doesn't read like one. I never wanted it to be over. It was, in parts, emotionally shattering.

Carnies do not read. What you're gonna want to do is mix drugs, liquor, fireworks, and a switchblade.

Don't stop partying until you're three fingers lighter.

4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss, then after that you should read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The first one is a business-esq book, but very worth reading, and the second one makes you feel good about the world.

Dave's recommended me Sarah Vowell. I looked at some of her stuff at Barnes&Noble, and it sounded good. Also, I trust Dave's taste.

Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking is a good one. I read it months ago and it's still occupying my thoughts.

My Mistress's Sparrow is Dead is a collection of short stories. Love, heartache, etc. Sounds sappy but is more haunting than sentimental.

Update, please. I want to hear about life as a carnie.
